The property needs to be returned in the condition recorded on your ingoing condition report, allowing for fair wear and tear. Almost every bond deduction we see comes down to cleaning. So here’s the checklist to work through before your final inspection.

- Oven, grill and stovetop degreased, including racks, trays and rangehood filters
- Cupboards and drawers emptied and wiped inside and out
- Benchtops, splashbacks and sink cleaned and descaled
- Dishwasher filter cleaned; fridge space wiped and floor behind it cleaned
Bathrooms and laundry
- Shower screens, tiles and grout free of soap scum and mould
- Toilets, basins and taps cleaned and descaled
- Exhaust fans dusted; mirrors and windows streak-free
- Laundry tub, taps and behind-appliance spaces cleaned
Throughout the home
- Walls, switches and doors spot-cleaned of marks
- Windows, tracks and flyscreens cleaned
- Skirtings, fans, vents and light fittings dusted; globes working
- Floors vacuumed and mopped; carpets professionally cleaned if required by your lease (keep the receipt)
- All rubbish and belongings removed, including the shed, roof space and under the house
Outdoors
- Lawns mowed, edges trimmed, gardens weeded
- Oil stains removed from driveways and garage floors
- Bins emptied, cleaned and left out appropriately
- Pet mess removed and any pet damage repaired
A note on professional cleaning
If the property was professionally cleaned at the start of your tenancy, matching that standard yourself is a big job. Many tenants simply book a bond clean and hand us the receipt. If you’d like, ask us for cleaners who regularly work on our properties and know exactly what our final inspections look for.
